I hadn’t heard of a kindle boycott, but I boycott Amazon every day. The only things I buy from Amazon are books by indie authors. I like authors more than I dislike Bezos. I also like promoting our own. I like that there are Christian books in every genre to inspire people to walk by faith. God obviously was a supporter of stories, so shouldn’t we be, too? I also like that books give me an excuse to stay away from the ungodly crap coming out of Hollywood. Books are better entertainment!
I won’t be boycotting Kindle altogether, but I’ll definitely be putting my own books wide and shopping for other authors wide first too. (And returning to buying physical books for the most part, also not from Amazon.) Maybe it’s just me being optimistic, but I do hope there’s a day soon where Amazon doesn’t dominate the industry.
I'm with you. I'm not boycotting Kindle either. Why? I have way too many indie friends who are putting books out there first and I want to read them. I'm also an Indie author, who has a trilogy out with the ebook exclusive, so it is in KU. The fun will be deciding when to go wide with it, but all my books will always be on KDP one way or the other as long as the service works. Right now you lose more by not publishing there. This could change. Everything does eventually.
Great to hear your take on it, JJ. The convenience of having a lot of books on a single, small device that I can take anywhere is very compelling for me as a reader. I don't have money or room in my house to purchase all those books in paperback. So if I don't use a Kindle, I don't read the books at all.
That said... actually BUYING the books on Amazon, if I can't be sure to keep them? That's a serious downside. Given THAT issue, I'm hoping that my favorite authors will offer their ebooks for direct sale. Going "wide" is fine, as long as that includes an option for directly getting the DRM-free .epub file for my own archiving.
Im a huge fan of selling and buying direct, and BookFunnel is an option for authors to sell and push their work as a direct to consumer method. But, authors need to take that initiative to do it. I think there are a lot of authors afraid or don’t have the knowledge on how to set it up. Bookfunnel has a golden opportunity here.

I read more than I watch TV, or stream nowadays. So much more enjoyable

Yes!! I try to buy physical copies from Christian businesses. The day I finally have proper shelves to put them all in.. I’m sure there will be tears.

Oh! And thanks for the tip on the scifi book sale -- snagged them all!
